Natural Interpretations: Exploring Possibilities in Found Objects & Natural Materials
I take cues for my art from my natural surroundings (currently the Central Colorado Rockies and high plains), and from found objects. I especially like oxidized metals (rust and other patinas), and all the Natural World has to offer. I enjoy the juxtaposition of weathered man-made objects with representations of the Natural World. I have also been greatly influenced and inspired by the arts and crafts of the native people of the American West and Southwest, and by the pre-Columbian art of Colombia where I lived for a time as a child. Working as a professional ski patroller and park ranger as my "day jobs" for a number of years while pursuing my art offered me the opportunity of spending a large amount of time with nature. I continue to get up on the trails as much as possible. I find great peace and spirituality in experiencing the natural world. My work is inspired by the rhythms of the world around me.
