I have no formal training in the visual arts, but I grew up in Eastern Washington State, very similar to the San Luis Valley in scenery and natural history and was aesthetically influenced by my early explorations there. It led to college studies in biology and graduate degrees in botany. From there I focused on plants in the tropics, particularly Asia, always inspired by deep experiences in nature.
Moving close to retirement, my wife Carol bought me a paper-making kit. Papermaking progressed in Crestone after we moved here in 2013. My creative impulse with paper changes continually, but my productions include wildflowers (photographed and pressed on paper), and I am moving into marbleizing and “painting” with dyed pulps onto thick sheets with a deckle box. I continually go into the surrounding high country, searching for new flowers to add to my papermaking productions.
